That Most Famous Tree

the last days of sycamore gap

a northern icon

This once iconic tree, basking in the last rays of an early autumn sun, shortly before it was cruelly and illegally felled. A symbol that meant so much to so many nestled contently for millennia between the swaying grasses of the surrounding meadows.

sun going down

A couple of weeks after this image was taken, the iconic Sycamore Gap tree was felled for God knows whatever reason. Though the suspects have since been caught, they've yet to be sentenced. Rather than dwell on such matters, I'm just pleased I managed to capture an image that I feel resonates the character of the area and of the tree itself. The sun going down, sadly, feels like more than a fitting metaphor for what was to come.
