A Golden Moment
a swan glides through the mist during a golden hour sunrise
gliding through golden mist
The shot I'd originally planned was for the Sun to be reflected in the Reach as it crested the horizon through the mist. The timing and the conditions on this late Spring morning were perfect but that plan completely changed with the appearance of this swan...

an unforgettable moment
This photo was one of those special moments I'll never forget.
I arrived at the car park by Glynde Reach shortly before sunrise. There was no inversion or pronounced blanket of morning fog this day but the grass was thick with dew and mist was collecting in drifts across fields and in hollows. Evaporating off the Reach were these delicate tendrils of mist and the air was humid enough to reduce the countryside to layers. This was exactly what I was hoping for and it was now just a case of waiting for the light to present itself.
I spent that time preparing and looking for the shot when, with no other soul around or any sound to be heard, a swan appears. He glides slowly, gracefully up to me as I sat on the river bank, acknowledges my presence with a slight turn of his head and then soundlessly swims on up the Reach.
Just me and him.
On this perfectly, almost deathly, still morning, I came away with a far more magical, and personal, image.
