Routin Framed

woodland waterfall framed by trees

a waterfall framed

Its amazing how too much or too little rainfall can affect the character and appearance of a waterfall. As this image of Routin Linn waterfall in the autumn will testify, the ability of prolonged heavy rain to transform a scene cannot be underestimated.

a magical retreat

Routin Linn waterfall is a fabulous retreat away from the world and a great chance to truly connect with nature. Hidden away in the heart of Northumberland, it is a true hidden gem where even in its small confined area, you can easily lose yourself for hours exploring the many different compositions available to you.

At low flow rates, the imaginatively titled Broomridgedean Burn is easily traversable allowing you explore the waterfall from different angles and viewpoints. And as the falls face south, the dean in which it sits captures the sun for most of the day, bathing it in dappled light and casting rainbows in the spray at the foot of the falls.

I love how the positioning of the trees along the burn allows you to frame the falls in this way which also creates a great sense of depth. I love this place.
