Ghostface Falls
a scenic waterfall in an autumn surrounding
long exposure waterfall photography
Routin Linn waterfall is without doubt one of Northumberland's hidden gems. Sharing parallels with its grander cousin Hareshaw Linn, it is an immersive location that allows you to indulge in the beauty of any season, but none moreso than the autumn months when the falls enter into full spate.

centre stage in an autumnal landscape
Routin Linn waterfall is usually characterised by delicate silvery threads that slip lightly over the sandstone wall, something that completely belies its grand stature. The narrow, diminutive gorge creates an area of stillness and isolation, perfect for solitude and reconnecting with Nature, but that character becomes an echoing roar during prolonged rains when the falls thunder throughout the ravine. Spring and Summer are quiet contemplation, Autumn and Winter are loud and raucous.
The character of the falls, oft dictated by the seasons, to me appears to take on the image of a hunched, cloaked figure as an outcropping at the head of the falls forms a cowl over a hidden face, hence the title of the image. I look forward to heading back here again under similar conditions to meet with the ghost once again.
