I've driven past this location may times and its startling how much a touch of morning mist can transform a scene. Immediately behind this tree there are some more trees and a farmhouse; the fog is that thick you just can't see them. Not only does the presence of mist transform the scene emotionally into something more ethereal then, it transforms it 'geographically' by removing its surroundings. Photographing in mist is great, if occasionally a little cold and damp.

Though an image of a misty landscape often suggests solitude and isolation, for me its like reassurance, a comforting blanket of sorts. It wraps you in its embrace and removes you from the world allowing you that moment of contemplation and reflection. It is with you and all around you allowing you that time for introspection.

I set up this shot as a balance between negative space and the delicate brushstrokes of the bare branches, adding subtle muted tones to try and create a dreamlike quality. I often forget how powerful a tool photography can be in its ability to evoke emotion and its usually not until the editing process where I see the potential. At the time, I just saw something beautiful and ephemeral that I had to capture.
