Still Deathly Still
frozen boat on an icy shore
trapped in ice
This is a companion piece to 'Deathly Still' and I really love the aspect ratio and the composition in this one. The sky on this evening perfectly encapsulated the winter blues for me; tonal shades that you never seem to see at any other time of year and forever speak of the etherealism of winter.

a touch of winter for your wall
I think there is so much story surrounding this boat. How long has it been there? Why is it there? How many winters has it seen? I've briefly visited this location a couple of times in the past but was never aware of this boat's existence. And yet, its obviously been there for a while as its condition in this image will testify and the fact its visible on Google Maps.
Either way, given its location, the angle it was facing and how it rested on the shore provided a unique set of challenges to try and capture the essence of the scene.
Remarkably, the water itself was like glass - I've never seen it so still - and its these conditions that have obviously allowed the shoreline of such a vast body of water to freeze.
