Edlingham In The Snow

historic icon in a winter wonderland

a tapestry of history and nature

Edlingham Castle is a dramatic historic treasure nestled in the heart of Northumberland and for me this scene stirs the imagination as winter's delicate touch seems to freeze a very moment in time. The snow-dusted ruins whisper tales of centuries past, creating a captivating scene that blends history and the serene beauty of a winter landscape.

the magic of winter at edlingham castle

This image, and its companion piece 'Suntower', came about (as always it seems) due to serendipity. Having studied the forecast the previous evening and with a plan for a very different photography shoot in the works, I headed north and soon became aware that my planned shoot was shot to pieces. Undeterred, a quick check of satellite and radar showed that snow flurries were falling across the Aln Valley region and the site of Edlingham Castle so it was a no brainer to head straight there.

The scene was one of total serenity. The sun had yet to rise above the hills, snow was falling softly but steadily and the lean of the east wall felt frozen in time as if by winter itself. You can read all about my adventure this day here.
