winding path through a magical bluebell wood

carpet of blue

Nothing says springtime to me more than a winding path through a carpet of bluebells and this area in Hollingside Wood is one of the more magical areas to visit when the forest floor begins to bloom.

bluebell glade

As Morpeth's Pegswood and Bluebell Wood is to flowering garlic, then Durham's Hollingside Wood is to bluebells. Its one of the best areas I know of in an area of woodland that is mercifully devoid of scrappy saplings and floor litter and contains more than enough unique areas to explore. Its a magical place to let your photographic eye wander and God only knows what it must be like when the sun comes out as every time I've visited its always been overcast or raining.
