Although it looks like a warm summer's evening, this was actually shot sometime in the February of 2019 - you'll notice that no-one is wearing shorts or t-shirts. That doesn't stop people coming out in their droves however to walk along the exposed glistening sand of what is, above the water line at least, a predominantly pebble beach.
This is one of my favourite prints and encapsulates so many memories and impressions from my time in Brighton into a single image; a typical snapshot of evening life with seagulls flocking to roost upon the West Pier and the local community emerging to immerse itself in the moment. The silhouettes instantly reminded me of Lowry's 'Matchstick' paintings and the decaying West Pier itself emits vibes of a more industrial past that often featured in his paintings.
This print of Brighton's West Pier at sunset is available in either A2 or A3 and I just love the sunset colours in this of orange and violet which the Canon Prograf-1000 is able to reproduce perfectly.
